Big South Fork Adventures offers shuttle services and rentals for the unguided multi-day, back-country, canoe/kayak float trip, from Leatherwood Ford - Turkey Creek. This rugged 50-mile trip goes through the remote, untamed Big South Fork NRRA, navigating Class II - mandatory portage, class IV rapids and the long extensive Turkey Creek flatwater paddling section. This 50mile float is broken down into several sections: Blue Heron - Turkey Creek, 24 miles, Leatherwood Ford to Blue Heron, 27 miles with Class III and mandatory portage, class IV rapids, Station Camp to Blue Heron, 19 miles, also Class III to mandatory portage Class IV rapids. Often reveled by Boy Scout Troops and back country adventure seekers alike, these float trips offer the paddler, an amazing wilderness adventure. This area is rugged wilderness with little access to medical facilities, cell phone reception and should be treated seriously. Highly recommend, pre trip planning, satellite communications, discussion with the BSF NRRA rangers and back country camping/float experience.
